Friendly but feisty in Umeå

Last week the ladies team made the trek up to Umeå for a friendly game against IKSU after facing them earlier in the year at Fyrisfjädern. With rookies on both sides, the focus was on development, giving exposure to real game scenarios and allowing both teams to input their skills developed throughout the season.
A few players were lent to IKSU, which allowed for a 14 v 14 game split into four 20-minute sections. Some played out of position, including Eevi Anderson who stepped up as fly half. For one of the 20-minute sections, Emma L (Batman) swapped with Ana G (Jacques) and fulfilled a lifelong wish of playing 8, giving Ana a crack at propping.
The ladies started the game with some strong and intense carries and broke through IKSU’s defensive line to see Batman, Fanny Hällegardh of Berserkers and Lauren Davies score tries. Despite being a friendly game, both sides were eager to gain meters making for exciting 20-minute sections. One section saw a prominently defensive side from Uppsala Berserkers, where IKSU pressed hard and stressed the defense.
In the later quarters, Uppsala Berserkers switched up the tempo and played the ball wide to gain several satisfactory team tries, with Maud Ringertz gliding the ball over the line 3 times.
Siri Milde stepped up and played for both teams and was awarded player of the day for IKSU for her incredible and powerful performance, breaking through several times and being an overall menace in attack.
In the end both teams saw some great phases of play, and the game ended with a join social in the streets of Umeå to celebrate a successful development game, building up confidence in all teams.
