On Sunday May 28th, Uppsala joined forces with the Erikslund team to play two matches at the Stockholm 10s tournament. It was a day for the rookies to get their first match day experience, and it didn't disappoint!
The first game against Kalmar had a relatively slow start, where the new players found their footing, and Uppsala and Erikslund learned to play together as a team. However after a couple of minutes things started to click. Uppsala/Erikslund went on to score 4 tries in their first game, with the captain, Robin Bond, breaking through the defensive line to score a fantastic try from the Uppsala squad. In the second half the attack started to look really strong, with some beautiful ball movement among the backs, and some great rucking. With solid defence, they managed to hold Kalmar to just two tries.
In game two against Berserkers/Sandviken, the Uppsala/Erikslund squad came out swinging. The attack was looking strong, with some great lines being run in the backs, and hard carries from the forwards. Eventually, Serwan Khidr managed to break through, and using his blistering pace, ran round the Berserkers/Sandviken wings for a try! The story of the second game however was the defence. Uppsala/Erikslund was putting in some absolutely huge hits, with Carlos Melgarejo making a stunning chase down try saving tackle in the second half. Berserkers/Sandviken managed to score a couple of tries early on by shipping the ball out wide, but with some great mid-game coaching from the Erikslund coach, these holes in the defence were fixed. The three Uppsala rookies all volunteered to play a third game as part of the Berserkers/Sandviken squad. The two Emils and Carlos played some great minutes for the team and really did Uppsala proud.
