Lund, Sweden – October 4th, 2025
Plebs made the early morning journey down to Lund to face the Lugi Lions in the first leg of a two-match ranking series, braving the wrath of Storm Amy which brought relentless wind and rain from the moment the convoy hit the road at 5:30 AM. With cars swaying and stomachs churning, the squad arrived soaked but undeterred, ready to take on the challenge.
The match kicked off in dramatic fashion, with Plebs losing their hooker Johnny just one minute in to a broken nose — the result of a committed tackle that perhaps involved a bit too much face. Rumor has it he's never looked better. In stepped Matti, making his senior debut at hooker, and he delivered a gutsy performance, battling through nearly 80 minutes in unfamiliar territory.
Plebs dominated possession in the opening 20 minutes, camping in Lugi's 22 and applying pressure. However, missed opportunities in the lineout and scrum allowed Lugi to escape and strike first with a try against the run of play.
The response was swift. After some slick build-up, Lex broke through and raced under the posts to score, leveling the game and reigniting Plebs' momentum.
The second half was a war of attrition. Plebs put in a monumental defensive effort, repelling wave after wave of Lugi attacks. Despite several promising chances, the wet conditions led to handling errors and missed opportunities. As tensions rose, Plebs saw two players sent to the bin with yellow cards, and Lugi capitalized with two more tries.
Despite the setbacks, Plebs never backed down. Every player fought to the final whistle, showing heart and commitment that deserves recognition. Special mentions go to:
- Lieth, who came on and secured a crucial possession late in the game.
- Matti, for his near full-game shift in an unfamiliar role.
- Jackie, who stepped up to play prop for the first time.
- Fredrik and Måns, who impressed in their senior debuts.
- Albin, who joined the squad for the first time and contributed to the team effort.
Although the result didn't go Plebs' way, the spirit and determination shown in Lund were undeniable. The squad now turns its focus to the return leg in Uppsala next weekend, where they'll look to bounce back and win the series.
Final score: 29 - 7 to Lugi.
